Diamonds, Rubies & Tanzanites - How do we cherish

Diamond jewellery, rubies, and tanzanites sit among the harder, more resilient gemstones, however these stones also benefit from considered care – after all, they are meant to be passed down for generations to come.

Do
•    Clean regularly by hand - warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush will lift the everyday oils and residue that dull a diamond's brilliance over time. Tanzanites are more delicate than diamonds and rubies, so use a soft cloth rather than a brush, and keep the water lukewarm.
•    Store chain pieces in a longer box so they can lie flat and undisturbed. Store tanzanites separately, well away from harder stones that could scratch their surface.
•    Have your fine diamond jewellery professionally inspected once a year. Prongs can loosen gradually and invisibly, catching them early saves the stone.
•    Bring them to us for cleaning whenever you feel they need a refresh. We are always happy to help.

Don't
•    Never use a home ultrasonic or steam cleaning machine – for any of the three stones. However effective they might appear, machines can loosen settings and damage metalwork in ways that are costly to repair.
•    Avoid storing diamonds alongside other pieces without separation - diamonds will scratch everything around them, including each other.
•    Tanzanites are more sensitive to extreme heat and sharp knocks, which can permanently alter their colour or cause damage. Avoid wearing them during sport or any activity where they risk an impact.
•    Do not wear fine jewellery during heavy physical activity, swimming, or while using cleaning products. Even hard stones can chip under the wrong kind of force.

Whatever the stone, whatever the piece - we are always here. Bring your Devi Jewels to us for professional cleaning and checking, and we will ensure they remain as extraordinary as ever. Fine jewellery is made to last a lifetime and we are here to help it do exactly that.
